One of the first things we do when we visit Jeff’s parents in Florida is take a trip to Port Charlotte to visit Mariners Trading. This boating supply consignment shop has a wide variety of used gear as well as nautical decor. We usually leave with a half a dozen books, a new chart book or two, and something swanky for our nautical-themed bar room.
We like to spend most of our visit perusing the paper charts, dreaming of our next trip. This week we bought a 1986 Region 2 Chart Kit for Block Island, RI to the Canadian Border. While it may seem silly to buy an 28 year old chart set, after the 50% off discount, it only cost us $3.50! We will use these charts for planning purposes only, as we consider our next adventure, and then, if we actually head to Maine, buy a more up-to-date kit. We also bought Rough Water: Stories of Survival from the Sea for $3!
As you can see, there are some great deals to be had at Mariners Trading, but there are also some pretty far-out prices here too. One example is this West Marine offshore PFD priced at $129! Clearly the consigner did not see the recent sale of this model for $99 at West Marine before xmas.
While we are no way affiliated with Mariners Trading, we highly suggest that if you find yourself on the West Coast of Florida, you drop in for a visit. At the very least, you will be entertained by the wide variety of decor items and the friendly faces that you will find at the counter.
While we were out and about, we also found the store below that made us think of our friend Mads at Sail Life. Perhaps this is where he goes to find decor for Obelix??? 🙂
I have recently found your videos and blogs. Some good information! This blog made me chuckle though. I’m a Mariners Trading Post junky. If I don’t get at least one monthly visit in, I just feel empty inside! Diane is great and is willing to haggle on prices making the experience much better than any trip to West Marine.
Awesome, Bryan. We have yet to haggle, but now that we know that is an option we might break it out!
I am interested in purchasing (2) sailboat winches, They need to be 2 speed self tailing and size 23 or 28. Do you have any in inventory? I also have an Origo 3000 alcohol stove 2 burner (in counter top design) a for sale.
Steve,
You probably found these by now. But, if not you are welcome to set up a search agent at http://www.BoatUsedPartSearch.com. My query suggestion is OBJECT: winch and DESCRIPTION: 23,28
Good Luck!
Doug

We have two items for consignment from our Leopard 46 catamaran. One is a 100 gallon Vetus water tank and the other is a mainsail. Are these items that we can offer for consignment? What are your hours of operation? Do you have any line clutches for 3/8″ line? Thank you!
